Welcome!

I love the freedom of writing

Starting At The Beginning or 32,807 Words Down

I've always wanted to write and be a published fiction author...and now I have the chance to do it without that pesky thing called "work" getting in the way; and I tell you what...it's brilliant! I'm loving it.

When I grow up I want to be some kind of hybrid of Jessica Fletcher and Dame Barbara Cartland...I want to poke my nose in other people's business whilst wearing pink chiffon - although I would prefer to have my own hunky Mills and Boon hero at my side.

I'm writing a book for the Blaze series of Mills and Boon books. The general word count for M&B books is around 50-55,000 words. It seemed like an achievable word count and I believe I know the genre fairly well, having been an avid reader of the romance books from my early teens, and could therefore write something that is publishable (I hope). Plus after a bit of a miserable relationship that I recently ended I could do with imagining a bit of heart warming (and steamy) romance.

I don't want to limit myself to this genre though. I'm a very eclectic person and I read many genres of fiction and I want to write more than one genre of fiction too; I also have a suspense book and a series of children's books in me too that I want to get published (and have to finish and start writing respectively). I am taking 2011 to explore the thing that I have always wanted to do, but never had the guts to actually do. I'm going to be turning my box of story ideas into a career. I just hope that I'm as good as I want to be.

About a month ago I set myself a target of sending off this first book to M&B within two weeks...life got in the way as did my obsession with finding the perfect solution to housing a desk in my medium sized flat...I'm still undecided and I'm still putting up with my warm laptop on my lap...and I'm still undecided as to what laptop to buy in the attempt to stop my thighs getting heat stroke. I need to make a decision so that I don't keep getting sidetracked from my writing...

By my next blog my word count will be higher than 32,807, and I might even have ordered a new laptop.
